Stretching across the bed, part of him wanting nothing more than to curl up beside him and hold him - to comfort him even though he knows it won't help nearly as much as fixing the problem, he snatches his compact from under the pillow, checking the round in the chamber before flicking on the safety and tucking it in the back of his khakis.
