Alone Time

Alone time is rare at best, and as he clutches the co-pilot's seat of the salvaged Cessna - only a little nervous each time Murdock tries a trick - the fact that they're getting almost a whole day to themselves is more or less the best thing on his mind. They're on a job, of course - they're coming more frequently over the last few months and while the pay seems to be lower at least it's keeping them moving since their close call back in Chicago - but he'll take what he can get.

Even if what he can get is spending the night together in a lean-to in the backwoods of southern Oregon with a few sleeping bags and a cooler while they wait for the boss' call to pick up the other half of the team in northern California. It's still nice to have a little downtime.

"And you kind of hate yourself for it."

He takes his hand, entwining their fingers together as he looks where he's indicating.

"Aw... I think I'm flattered."

His smile falters and he lets out a soft sigh before it turns back up again.

"You should be. It's a pretty great burrito."

[notthatcrazy]

"Is this an actual burrito or a nickname for a certain piece of anatomy?"

He gives him a suggestive eyebrow wiggle before leaning in to kiss him.

"You know I love you, right?"

"Read the stars, man..."

He chuckles under his breath, accepting the kiss without hesitation.

"Yeah... of course. Never doubted that, man."

"See, I kinda have this theory about love."

He gives him a long, quiet look, snuggling close against him.

"And I never told anyone this before, so you're not allowed to laugh."

It's a rare moment of self-consciousness, and feels unexpectedly serious.

"Have I ever laughed at you?" His eyes are serious despite his smirk, and the brief worry that maybe he has without realizing it.

"Let it out. Nobody here but us chickens."

He has, but never in a mean way. In any case, he feels comfortable enough to continue on.

"I think every person has someone in the world that's a perfect fit for them, only most people don't get lucky enough to find theirs."

He pauses, blinking up at the starts peeking through the shifting cloud cover.

"And you can still be happy if you find someone else, 'cause otherwise it'd be really depressing, but if you're lucky enough to find that one person... well, I always figured you'd know it."

He looks him in the eyes, as the fire burns low.

"You get what I'm sayin'?"

He can't help himself, when Murdock's eyes meet his, he looks down and swallows a lump that feels like it's suddenly come up in his throat.

"You think we fit?" He asks quietly, staring the fire as he twists his stick between his fingers.

"I think you're my one."

He blinks, suddenly, and if anyone asks he'll blame it on the smoke in the air.

"I think I've known it since the day we met."

If it was anyone else, maybe even anywhere else, he'd walk away. Not because he doesn't feel it - he just doesn't want to feel it. He doesn't want to hear it. He doesn't want to be that guy.

But, he's trapped. There's nothing there but the plane and the hangar and a fucking tarp. And he has to say something.

So he whispers; "How do you know, I mean... maybe you just want me to be the one?"

"I don't even know if I can explain it... I was kinda out of it that day, and then with adrenaline rush the memories are kinda jumbled up. But I know what I feel, y'know?"

It's a perfectly reasonable thing to question, but he kind of hates that he can't express it better.

He nods slowly, then looks up at him with just a slight shine to his light blue eyes. After a moment of consideration, equal parts trying to clear his mind and figure out exactly what he thinks about that reasoning, one corner of his mouth turns up and he leans forward to brush a kiss to the corner of Murdock's lips.

"Maybe you're right." He kisses him again, more boldly; "I hope you are."

"All I can say is there's no one else I'd rather be with, even when things get tough. Hell, especially when things get tough."

He returns the kiss, a little deeper and more forceful.

"Like I said... it's a theory."

He wants to say that it's the words that make him tingle and shift against the mild stirrings of arousal, but truth told it's likely just as much that forceful kiss that makes him groan against Murdock's lips.

"I think I like that theory." He murmurs, pressing a smaller kiss; "And you know there's nobody else I'd rather trust my life to."

Tossing the stick into the fire, he lets his hand rest on Murdock's knee, giving it a fond squeeze.

"Glad to hear it."

He leans closer, watching the flickering flames.

"You wanna take this somewhere more private?"

[notjustaface]

As close as they are, he can smell the lingering traces of the creek and fire and sweat in Murdock's hair and Face takes the opportunity to brush a kiss against his ear.

"More private than the middle of the forest down by the fireside?"

His voice drops to an almost seductive purr; "Making love under the stars?"

He knows him well.

"Mmm." He answers the purr with a happy sigh of his own. "Point taken."

They've done quite a bit alone at night in a tent or even a hammock... but never naked. So, it's a good first. And the happy sigh tells him all he needs to know.

"I love you..." he whispers, pulling back to offer a warm smile, just a little proud of himself for being able to say it before his penis gets involved. "And I want you. Anywhere. Everywhere."

Aw... that's just adorable. And he never does get tired of hearing it.

"Everywhere, huh?"

He's suddenly feeling a little overdressed, even just wearing jeans.

"Hey. C'mere."

[notjustaface]

"Everywhere." He confirms, leaning back in and pressing his palm flat against Murdock's chest.

He doesn't want to rush, not tonight. They've got time and it feels good to do it right every so often.

With a small push, he guides Murdock onto his back, curling onto his side next to him; "How about right here?"

"Gettin' closer," he grins, sliding a hand down his side. "But not close enough."

[notjustaface]

"Just letting you lead the way," he pushes back against the gentle touch, allowing his fingers to follow lower to the button of his jeans - subtly thumbing it open but leaving his zipper be.

"I'm sure we'll be plenty close soon enough."

[notthatcrazy]

"Right," he murmurs, squirming at the touch. "Taking it nice and easy..."

He runs his hand across Face's chest, tangling fingers in the sparse thicket of hair before moving slowly downward.

[notjustaface]

"Something like that..." he replies, knowing full and well it can jump to hot and heavy pretty fast.

"I mean it though," his fingers linger on the thick zipper, teasing at the metal tab; "I should have said it earlier when you said that thing about soul mates and love and all that but I'm... I'm kind of an idiot."

[notthatcrazy]

Either way's fine with him, as long as they get there at some point tonight.

"Maybe." He pulls him closer to whisper into his ear. "But you're my idiot."

... What? It's romantic.
