Playing House: And It All Ends Far Too Soon

His last day at work, they'll be heading out come morning, and Face is torn between the nagging voice in his head that wants to stay more than anything and the sense of duty that tells him he has to go. In the end, it's Murdock's insistence that they go keeps him moving.

He's had a few drinks when he trudges up the stairs to their small apartment and is singing an upbeat song in French when he lets himself in - trying to keep the mood as light as he can.

After hanging his jacket, he calls out proudly; "Reste avec moi pour toujours mon amour?"

"That's a promise."

He holds up Face's hand where he's still wearing his rings for emphasis.

"What're you gonna do with those when we go back, anyway?"

It's easy enough to pose as a married couple when no one actually knows you...

Honestly, he hadn't thought about it - he'd started wearing them again as a way to remember what he'd done to break that trust... to remember blood on the elevator floor when Murdock threw their mates in his face with a punch for good measure.

He'd kept wearing them on a whim, never making the conscious decision about whether or not they were posing as a couple until he was asked.

"Put them somewhere safe, I guess." He replies softly, shrugging one shoulder.

"I like that you wear 'em."

He knows exactly why he started, and why it's such a significant choice.

"Means a lot to me."

Nodding slowly against him, Face considers the statement a long moment before asking; "I could keep wearing them?"

It wouldn't do any harm, not really.

He looks him in the eye for a good long moment, letting the thought warm him.

"Would you?"

[notjustaface]

"If you want me to," he offers, the corners of his lips twisting into a half-smile.

"Who knows, maybe we could even make them official."

[notthatcrazy]

He scoots back, looking at him seriously.

"Are you really asking me that right now?"

[notjustaface]

He wasn't sure until he saw the serious, flat tone of Murdock's face. Looking back up at him, he nods slowly and says; "I'm not talking about today... but yeah, I mean... some day, right? Maybe soon."

"I don't know..." he teases. "You might have to ask me again."

[notjustaface]

"Are you kidding? That whole down on one knee bit? Once in a lifetime thing." He laughs under his breath, shifting both knees to jolt Murdock back against his chest.

"But maybe I'll surprise you one day."

[notthatcrazy]

"Fair enough," he chuckles.

"But just so you know... the answer's yes."

[notjustaface]

"I was hoping you hadn't changed your mind..." he murmurs, nuzzling against his ear affectionately.

After a short moment, he lets his hands slide lower on Murdock's back and asks; "Maybe we can start the honeymoon early?"

"Well, technically we already had a honeymoon..."

He leans for a deep kiss, straddling his legs.

"But who cares. Take me to bed, babe."

[notjustaface]

"No... our cover identities had a honeymoon..." he laughs, leaning back until he hears the chair creak loudly in protest of their weight on the joints.

"I'm holding out for an island vacation where we can run naked on the beach."

He growls playfully, baring his teeth as he lifts Murdock onto his shoulder - the only difficulty coming with then pushing himself off the chair.

That's actually a good point. He can't wait for the day when they can make things official using their actual names.

"You and your exhibitionism." He swats him playfully as he stands and tries to help him keep his balance.

"When we do this for real, I want an outdoor wedding."

[notjustaface]

"Anything you want..." he grunts, slinging Murdock down to carry him in his arms - letting Murdock's head rest on his shoulder much more easily.

"Except doves. No doves."

[notthatcrazy]

He wrinkles his nose. "That is a totally overused cliche."

He snuggles up against his chest, pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"Besides, doves are just prettier pigeons."

[notjustaface]

"No pigeons either," he cautions, stepping close to the futon before gently laying him down.

"In fact, I'd say no animals that aren't of the human..." his eyes glance over to their bear brigade, still guarding the spider plant that would have to find a new home; "or plush."

"Aww, you're no fun."

He's still sad they can't take the plant with them.

"I will agree to no birds of any species, though."

[notjustaface]

Animals are unpredictable - he's got his hands full as it is with Murdock's unpredictability.

"It's a shame you can't get away with wearing white." He's only teasing, of course, a white tuxedo would make him look like he was going to prom.

Don't put it past him to wear a wedding dress. He's just nutty enough (and open-minded enough) to do it.

"I never liked that tradition." He shakes his head. "If you wanna wear white on your wedding day, you should get to wear white."

Not that he wants to. It's the principle of the thing.

"I'm more of a black-tie man myself..." he laughs, climbing into bed on top of him - holding his weight on all fours to surround his partner.

"You look good in a suit."

[notthatcrazy]

"Well thank you," he drawls, drawing out his accent because he knows Face likes it.

"You can be pretty dapper yourself."

[notjustaface]

"I've made a career out of it," he murmurs, pressing a kiss against his lips; "it means more when you have to try."

And he means it, to him a suit is just another uniform - for Murdock, it's a transformation.

"God I love you."

[notthatcrazy]

"Nice to know you appreciate it."

A uniform is one thing, but Face is one of the very few people he'll wear a suit for.

"Love you too, darlin'."
