Alone Time

Alone time is rare at best, and as he clutches the co-pilot's seat of the salvaged Cessna - only a little nervous each time Murdock tries a trick - the fact that they're getting almost a whole day to themselves is more or less the best thing on his mind. They're on a job, of course - they're coming more frequently over the last few months and while the pay seems to be lower at least it's keeping them moving since their close call back in Chicago - but he'll take what he can get.

Even if what he can get is spending the night together in a lean-to in the backwoods of southern Oregon with a few sleeping bags and a cooler while they wait for the boss' call to pick up the other half of the team in northern California. It's still nice to have a little downtime.

"I'm sure you could."

He sighs softly, letting himself get lost in the pleasure of being with his man and not having to keep his guard up for a while.

"You're smart that way."

Smart, devious, they're not so different really.

Kissing and teasing his tongue along the ridge of his lover's ear, he says softly; "I'm sure I could teach you a few new tricks after we warm up a bit."

"Shh," he murmurs, still tugging gently at his hair. "Take your time, sweetheart, we've got all day."

The sweet whispers and affectionate nicknames are meant to slow him down and let him know that he's happy with things as they are. Not that he really expects it to get through, though he knows he'd stop if he really wanted him to.

He has learned a thing or two, and definitely catches the hint. Murdock's not some mark he's working over - they've got time... Maybe even a lifetime.

So he lets his palm linger on Murdock's hip - enjoys the slow rhythmic breathing as their body temperatures slowly even out.

"You know what you do to me..." He smiles, lifting back up to kiss his lips.

At least a lifetime, if he has anything to say about it.

"Mmmhmm." He smiles softly at the lingering touch. "Now that we finally got some time together."

For a while, he can let himself believe that they won't always be on the run, living from day to day and grasping for moments with each other whenever they can get them.

"Finally..." he sighs. The stretches of time apart from the group are few and far between - and rarely for more than enough time for a quickie and snuggle before they're once more back in the action.

"It's nice."

"mmhmm."

He plans to enjoy every minute of it.

"You know what I wanna do?"

[notjustaface]

Almost hopeful, but mostly teasing, he answers; "That thing with your tongue?"

He squeezes Murdock's hip again, quick to jump back in with; "Kidding! Kidding... what'd you want to do, babe?"

That earns him another affectionate swat on the backside.

"I wanna dry off, get back to camp... have some food, maybe a few drinks... maybe make some s'mores."

Can't have a camp-out without them, after all.

"Then later, when it gets dark... I'm sure you can tell where I'm going with this."

The tongue thing will be happening. Eventually.

The swat isn't helping your attempt to calm the mighty beast, Murdock.

Face rolls his eyes, letting out a soft sigh that's clearly not frustrated but a little amused.

"I knew it was gonna be s'mores." He presses another kiss to his chin, playfully dragging his fingertips down Murdock's chilly thigh.

"Promise later?"

Ah, but s'mores mean chocolate and stickiness and probably licking of fingers.

"Of course, baby."

He tilts his chin up to give him a proper kiss, one full of warmth and promise and potential.

"That's part of the reason we're here, ain't it?"

It takes him a moment to connect relaxing to the warm kiss, a promise is a promise - and he'll hold you to that.

"Officially? I'm pretty sure the boss thinks we're humiliating wildlife with the wild throes of our passion."

He hides the ensuing giggles by pressing his face to his lover's shoulder.

"I'm pretty sure he tries not to think about it."

Not that they make it very easy sometimes. They get loud.

The giggle draws up a short laugh of his own and several small kisses on the top of Murdock's damp hair.

After a long moment of laughter, he manages to ask; "So I'm guessing you want me to make like a proper alpha male and go make fire?"

He chuckles, rolling his eyes slightly. "Sure, go assert your masculinity."

He leans back slightly, reaching for his mostly-dry jeans.

"You might wanna put your pants back on first, though."

[notjustaface]

"Nah, primitive man needed no pants!" He replies, pushing back up on his bare feet with a somewhat smug grin, brushing a little loose grit off his thighs. "You think it's the first time I've lit a campfire naked?"

With a wink, he sprints off toward the lean-to, already picking out small split timber and kindling that had managed to stay drier than the inside of the shack.

"Just watch out for the sparks!" he calls back with a grin, pulling his jeans back on. He leaves the shirt off though, content to soak up the remaining rays of sunshine as he follows him back to base camp.

It's still early in the afternoon, so he's content to build a smaller fire - just like he'd learned so far back it was practically instinct, triangular arrangement with just enough kindling in the center to get it going with the matches tucked into the kindle box.

By the time he's got it started, Murdock's already laid out a blanket and no doubt said edibles aren't far behind.

"Lunch first?"

He nods, settling back on the blanket as he breaks out the eats. There's the usual campfire/picnic fare, along with a six-pack of Face's favorite beer.

"You're good for puttin' up with me, you know that?"

Considering he's the one laying back au natural digging into a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, he can't help but find the unexpected remark just a little on the silly side.

"What're you talking about?" He snorts; "I should thank you for putting up with me."

Pushing up again, he takes a long swig of beer and adds; "You're awesome."

"Putting up with you?" He shakes his head, biting his lip, even as he knows there's truth to both statements.

"Y'know what? We're both kinda awesome."

[notjustaface]

He means it, and for what it's worth he knows Murdock means it too.

"You've got that right," he leans in close, brushing a kiss against his lips. "We're the best."

"And we are awesome. Together."

He takes his hand, nudging it against Face's bare chest.

[notjustaface]

Straightening his back to push back against his lover's palm, he kissed him again.

"That," he grins wider, leaning in for a kiss; "is the damn awful truth."

He grins against his lips, tasting the sticky sweetness of the peanut butter.

"Good sandwich?"
