Separation, Anxiety

It hadn't been a particularly hard mission, at least not by comparison to some of the stunts they've managed in the last ten years, but there was one fatal point where it could fall apart. Face had approximately sixty seconds to make it from tunnel to the next - a journey that shouldn't take more than forty-five seconds - before enemy's defensive explosion went off leaving him not only trapped but pinned down and unable to escape assuming he survived the event.

An unexpected sniper cut thirty seconds off the time he had. He was four seconds too late... just behind enough the blast didn't take him out - but not out. He was trapped behind the line, and utterly fucked.

"Put her in the air, Captain." Hannibal says softly, staring at the plume of dust and debris for any sign that Face had made it through last second. There was none.

Relocating Face to the shack's only bed is easy enough once a pair or assault rifles are shuffled off.

"There's medication in his bag; antibiotics and if he needs it morphine." Hannibal lectures Murdock as BA takes stock of what they have readily available. "We have to assume the worst and be ready for it. The largest cut will have to be redressed in the morning."

"There's a CB set up too, I'm gonna grab a radio in case you need us."

"Don't use it unless it's an emergency. These men are very dangerous, as you know."

"Got it."

He'll be looking over his shoulder all night. And probably not getting much sleep, as badly as he needs it.

"How're we set for other supplies?"

"It'll take a couple days to get what we need, but you should be fine." Hannibal answers, BA close behind him.

He knows it's not fair to just leave them, but they're no good to come with and there are some things that in the long run are best kept to just them.

"Get some rest."

He kind of appreciates the space. And if they really need to get in contact, there's the CB.

"We will."

...Hannibal is probably going to see right through that statement. He really will try though.

"Go on, we'll be okay."

Hannibal lingers a bit longer still, trying some shred of anything that might make things easier, but there's just nothing. Ultimately, it's down to just them.

He's putting on a brave face as much as he can. He's never had any hang-ups about showing emotion (to hell with that 'boys don't cry' crap, he's glad his grandparents didn't expect that of him) but military training has taught him how to be numb when he has to. He doesn't want Hannibal to see him any more upset than he already is.

"I know," he says in response to the unspoken concern. "Sooner you leave, the sooner you can get back here."

And the sooner he can curl up next to Face and let those bottled-up feelings out.
